Durban High School recently performed Greig Coetzee’s wickedly amusing satirical production, ‘Happy Natives’.
The talented cast handled the difficult subject matter in an exceptional manner and delivered two spectacular high energy performances.
The cast members were:
Nthutuzelo Mbadi as Mto
David Whitfield as Kenneth
Nkanyiso Hlongwa as Prudence
Manelisi Buthelezi as Xaba
Jeeveshwara Sooriah as Patel
Tiagan Terblanche as Jimmy
Atara Jawahir from Maris Stella as Cheneye
Director, Gyendra Sooriah, was able to capture the humour in the seriousness of the racial climate. Mbadi and Whitfield held the cast together with a solid performance whereas, Hlongwa and Sooriah brought immense amounts of humour to the floor. Terblanche enchanted the audiences with his hysterical natural characterisation of an Afrikaner. Atara Jawahir lit up the stage with her velvet voice as she sent tingles down everyone’s spines. Buthelezi played a dual role and brought energy and comedy to lighten up the serious subject matter.
Thank you to the Durban High School 1st XV Rugby players who made guest appearances in the show!
Durban High School would like to thank Greig Coetzee for granting us the rights to the production and we would like to extend our gratitude to all of those who came in their numbers to support the two sell out shows.
