Today, The DHS Foundation Trust officially handed over to the School three newly revamped, refurnished and upgraded classrooms.
These three classrooms are the first to be completed in the start of an ongoing project by the Foundation to upgrade every single classroom at Durban High School.
Head Master, Mr AD Pinheiro, opened the small handover ceremony and thanked the School’s maintenance team for their hard work, the educators for their valuable input and the Foundation for making it all happen.
CEO of The DHS Foundation, Mr Louis Ardé, then thanked the Old Boys of Durban High School whose generous support and contributions have made the project possible.
He thanked all involved:  contractor Mark Zeller, Maintenance Managers Gerhardt Aylward and Mike Maree, Head of IT at DHS Lynne Worth, GB Parent Richard Smith and service providers NuTech.  He also thanked the members of the maintenance team, Jabulani and Lucas Sibiya and Musa for an excellent job and educators Michelle and Len Girodo for their hours spent on the input. Rob Mutch and Candice Herbst of the Foundation were also thanked for their contribution.
Mr Ardé said that every classroom reflected the personality of the teacher and the ethos of the School. The new classrooms were something to be proud of.  The remainder of the classrooms would be revamped in due course and Mr Ardé said he would like to give Staff an incentive by introducing a termly “Best Classroom” competition to encourage them and the Boys to further enhance and embrace their classrooms.
Mrs Neave, an HOD at DHS and one of the recipients of a new classroom, responded by saying what a fantastic feeling it was to be presented with the wonderful classrooms and they were all looking forward to settling into them during the holidays.
The classrooms have had a new aluminum entrance door and windows fitted, with tinted glass to keep the rooms cool and negate the need for curtains and blinds. The walls have been beautifully painted and they have been fitted with new white boards, pin boards, desks, navy blue chairs, special desks and chairs for the educators and storage facilities.
The classrooms look stunning and we are all incredibly grateful to the Foundation and the Old Boys of Durban High School for providing the means to make this project possible and to the team who put it all together and to make life more comfortable and pleasant for our Boys … we are so proud of the transformation that is happening at our fine School!
