It is no secret that Durban High School has many offerings that are not available at other schools, particularly on the Education side.
As the DHS Open Day draws closer (on 22 February), we bring these initiatives your attention and highlight the Educational Partners who have chosen to invest in DHS, and our boys.
DHS Cambridge Academy – DHS is an approved Cambridge International School. The Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE) is a world-class international education programme that gives students an excellent opportunity to apply to tertiary education institutions worldwide. A Cambridge Education is recognised in over 1,400 universities worldwide and will be accepted by every UK university, 300 universities in the US (including ALL the IVY LEAGUE universities) and in many other major student destinations, such as Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and Germany.
DHS Nonpareil Academy – a brainchild of our Head Master, Mr Pinheiro, has become a reality. The Nonpareil Academy caters for those with higher order thinking skills that still do the NSC syllabus. Boys are taught to look further than the basic concepts and this allows for a lot of peer and facilitator collaboration as opposed to group learning between the boys. Class numbers are smaller and the way in which boys learn prepares them even further for life after school. Again, no other school offers this.
Swales Online Academy – an independent online school that is affiliated with and endorsed by DHS. Swales follows a unique approach to education, using innovative digital and video teaching techniques.
Trinity College London Marking Centre – The Chris Seabrooke Music Centre is an accredited Trinity College London Marking Centre! Music students at School are able to register to their Trinity Grade in both practical and theory. Trinity College London is a leading international exam board and independent education charity that has been providing assessments around the world since 1877.
NewBridge – South African education innovators, Craig Duff and Odette Francesconi, who founded Varsity College in 1991, have opened the pioneering new educational institution, NewBridge. The brand new Tertiary Institution is on our campus.
TLT (Tomorrow’s Leaders in Training) – with our enviable history when it comes to leaders in society, DHS is proud to endorse a partnership with TLT, whose focus is on maximizing the potential of our youth through their incredible Leadership and Life Skills program.
Focus Air – this Elective provides DHS boys with the opportunity to prepare for his PPL (Private Pilot License) which is the qualification that forms part of an overall programme to achieving his CPL (Commercial Pilot License). No other school offers this. If your son wants to be a pilot, send him to DHS!
ValuCorp – DHS have endorsed ValuCorp which equips your son with the skills and ability to assess an emergency situation and provide basic Life Support and basic First Aid in order to stabilise patients.
Confucius Institute – the Confucius Institute of China offers your son the opportunity to learn Mandarin as a language.
Wessa – we are an approved member of WESSA which reiterates our commitment to the Wildlife and Environment of South Africa. This
