Music

Music has a long and rich heritage at Durban High school. A vibrant and dynamic part of the Creative Arts, our department encourages students to explore their creativity through the broad music programme which includes a number of exciting groups and ensembles of contrasting genres.

The Chris Seabrooke Music Centre which was launched in 2017, boasts seven practice rooms, a project recording studio and a magnificent state of the art auditorium complete with a baby grand piano. This stunning facility has considerably impacted the development of Music both culturally and academically at Durban High School. We

offer students lessons on an instrument in classical. jazz and rock styles. Our Jazz band. Choir. Drumline and Rock bands allow students the opportunity and platform to perform at several music events throughout the year.

In addition, a crucial part of the development of DHS boys into well-rounded young men is serving the community. Our music students are therefore regularly taken to perform at events that serve the community, sharing both their talents and their time. The results are evident in and through the lives of the learners who are benefiting immensely from this programme
